"There's good news for passengers boarding international flights out of India
There's good news for those who dread roaming around at airports like zombies, in the dead of night, to board international flights out of India. The aviation ministry has started insisting that countries wishing to introduce or add Flights to India must offer convenient departure times.
This concern for the long-suffering Indian globetrotter has already started reflecting in new bilateral agreements being now signed with other countries, resulting in airlines adding daytime flights from here.
"Why should our international departures be at odd hours? Departures have to be convenient to passengers according to our times and foreign time zones. There are some flights with historical right at those times, but now on we will insist on convenient departure timings," aviation minister Praful Patel told TOI . Currently, most international departures are at night and very few during daytime.
India's insistence on this new clause has already started bearing fruit. For instance, earlier almost all Flights to Bangkok and flights to Singapore were after midnight. Now Singapore Airlines has recently started 8 am flights from Delhi twice a week. Thai Airways is going to launch daytime flights between Delhi and Bangkok four days a week. Lufthansa is also going to have some daytime flights to Germany. The United Arab Emirates has also assured to launch such daytime flights, said an official.

The Office of National Statistics recently reported that the number of Brits heading abroad in the first three months of 2008 has increased by two per cent of last year's figures.
National Ayurveda medical institute for Delhi
New Delhi: A national Ayurveda medical institute would be set up in New Delhi on the lines of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).
Anbumani Ramadoss, Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, said, "We are setting up an All India Institute of Ayurveda in Delhi over a land area of around 15 acres. The medical college will be set up in South Delhi near Apollo Hospital with an investment of Rs 150 crore. All kinds of research and referral activity in the field of herbal medicine will take place here," Ramadoss said. He was participating in a community outreach programme on herbal gardens. Ramadoss said the thrust on ayurveda was necessary as it was expected to emerge as a five trillion dollar industry by 2050. Thirty two percent of all medicines consumed in the US are herbal-based and India must try to tap its vast resources available in across every state, he said. Earlier, Ramadoss launched the Home Herbal Gardens initiative of The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) and the National Medicinal Plant Board (NMPB) which aims at encouraging Delhiites to develop medicinal plant gardens in their backyards.Find great deals and discounts on holidays in Delhi.
